Cyclone ‘Mocha’ intensifies into ‘very severe’ storm over Bay of Bengal: NDRF deploys 8 teams in West Bengal

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Mocha has intensified into a ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm over the southeast and adjoining areas of central Bay of Bengal.

As per the latest update, the cyclone is centred at 05:30 hours IST of 12th May 2023 over central adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed eight teams and 200 rescuers in West Bengal’s Digha after warnings of the cyclone’s intensification into a severe storm.

The IMD has also predicted that the cyclonic storm is likely to recurve and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over the central Bay of Bengal by the evening of 12th May.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has issued an official statement, placing its units on high alert amid the warning of the IMD for cyclonic storm Mocha.
